Unmasked Truths: Shattered Dreams – Dorm Common Room – Environment Concept

Dorm Common Room –
Brief: Create a common space where academy students can relax and interact with one another.
- For the dorm room, I wanted to create an open, grand space that showcases elements from the other building while also highlighting unique features, such as the lowered central area and the ceiling light fixture.
- I started by opening the empty room in Blender and making quick blockouts of different layouts, seeing what works best in this area. The space was quite big and empty, so I decided to lower the central area, which gave the space a clear focal point as well as visual and gameplay interest. The space also had more purpose this way, making room for a seating area where students can retreat to study or interact with one another.
- I then made sketches and iterations for all the elements, ranging from the flooring and ceiling to the furniture, while collaborating and receiving feedback from the Art Lead.
- After all the elements were completed, I created a callback sheet for the finished space so the 3D teams could reference it.

Library –
Brief: Create a cosy library using the predefined space. There should be the main library room, a vinyl area and a computer room.
- The Library was one of my favourite rooms to design in the building. It was a nice challenge to create a somewhat cosy space in a room so large.
- I started in Blender to get an idea of the available space. I then tried a few different layouts for the rooms, creating three variants that I later showed to the team for feedback. Once we decided on one of them, I started to add more details to the blockout.
- I then worked on each room to give it a slightly different design, visually separating the spaces.
- The last part was to create the different items, their variations, and a callback sheet.

Trial Room –
Brief: Redesign the Trial Room
- For the Trial Room, I first tried to see which parts of the design I could keep and which needed redesigning to make the room more cohesive with the other buildings in the game.
- It was determined that the bottom part needed the most change, so I kept the windows and ceiling the same while focusing on the floor. I repurposed some of the already-made pillars to save on time.
- To help the 3D team, I decided to create normal maps and textures that can be applied directly to the 3D objects.
